Griffin Living Honors Seniors, Building Them the Communities They Deserve

At Griffin Living, developing senior living communities is about honoring our seniors and providing them with the housing and care they have earned.

Griffin Living, a company focused on developing and managing senior living communities, was founded in 2009 by Paul Griffin III, a fifth-generation home builder. His inspiration for establishing the company came as he watched his parents and their friends struggle to find quality senior communities. He realized that there was an opportunity for a firm to enter the market and fill this need.

He knew the firm’s success hinged not only on being competent, quality real estate developers, but also by approaching their projects from a position of respect for seniors and their unique needs. He realized that seniors wanted to remain woven into the fabric of their community and not be isolated from the neighborhoods in which they reside. Paul explains, “More and more people are living longer and they deserve high quality and vibrant communities, and that’s what Griffin Living offers. We’re building places that seniors love to call home, where their friends and family love to visit, and where they can remain connected to the community around them.”

Paul was born into the home building business. His father owned a housing development company in Southern California. By working with his father, Paul learned the business from the ground up, including operations, strategic and daily planning, and mentoring and managing teams.

Paul’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited in the early 90s and he left his father’s firm to start his own home building company where he ended up developing not only homes but master planned communities, retail centers, and office space. Throughout his career he has amassed a career total of over $4.5 billion in assets developed. He was awarded the Building Industry Association’s Builder of the Year in 1997 and Habitat for Humanity’s Builder of the Year in 2000. Additionally, he has won awards from the National Association of Home Builders and the Pacific Coast Builders Conference for design and community land plans as well as for establishing quality programs for volume builders.

As a developer and manager of senior living communities, Griffin Living has created projects for all sorts of seniors, including projects featuring 55+ active living, independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The amenities at Griffin Living communities are always thoughtfully designed with residents and their visitors in mind. Many projects have open floor plans, with indoor/outdoor spaces that offer a homey, peaceful retreat for residents.

Griffin Living communities are also designed to allow plenty of activity, whether that be staff-organized events or simply providing space for seniors to comfortably visit with friends and family.

Notable Griffin Living projects include VivaBella at Simi Valley in Simi Valley California, winner of a National Association of Home Builders award, and the Sheridan at Eastside, in Snellville, Georgia, a joint venture with Senior Lifestyle. A comprehensive list of the company’s projects is available at GriffinLiving.com.

Griffin Living is headquartered in Calabasas, California with additional offices in Atlanta, Georgia.

Paul Griffin Keeps Griffin Living Thriving Through All Markets

Griffin Living, a privately-held, family-run company that develops and manages senior living communities, continues to thrive under the leadership of its founder, president, and CEO Paul Griffin III, just as it has since its inception in 2009.

Formerly known as Griffin Fine Living, the company was established at a time when many real estate developers were struggling to obtain financing. With Paul’s leadership and the skill and experience of senior management, Griffin Living managed to flourish during its first decade by relying on tenacity and resourcefulness. An illustration of their resilience can be seen in their Cambria at Riverwalk project, a 55+ active senior living community in Riverside, California. The project was in development in 2009 when Griffin Living, like many real estate development firms, struggled to find banks willing to give loans. Paul and his team had to get creative. They partnered with a construction company based outside of the United States and got the project back on track. It ended up winning the 2011 Senior Project of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders.

The resilience shown in the company’s early years continues to manifest itself today. Griffin Living currently has several projects in development around the country. Notable projects include VivaBella Simi Valley, an assisted living and memory care community that is currently under construction and will be located within a shopping center in Simi Valley, California. By integrating the senior living community into the retail space, residents at the project will be able to remain woven into the fabric of their neighborhood. The project earned the NAHB’s Best 55+ Assisted Living or Special Needs Community on the Boards Gold/Innovation award.

Also, in development in California, is VivaBella Westlake Village in Thousand Oaks, California. The project features a village-like design that includes elegant courtyards, thoughtful landscaping, wide setbacks, and striking architectural elements.

Across the country in Snellville, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, Griffin Living is readying a fall 2019 opening for The Sheridan at Eastside, a senior living community offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The project is the result of a partnership between Griffin Living and Senior Lifestyle Corporation. The companies worked together in developing the community, and they will own and manage it through a joint venture.

Griffin Living’s headquarters are in Calabasas, California and they have offices in Atlanta, Georgia.

Griffin Living Projects Receive Numerous NAHB Awards

Griffin Living, which develops and operates senior living communities across the country, has recently earned multiple awards from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) for a variety of projects.

Griffin Living’s VivaBella Simi Valley, an assisted living and memory care community currently under construction in Simi Valley, California, earned the NAHB’s Best 55+ Assisted Living or Special Needs Community on the Boards Gold/Innovation award. VivaBella Simi Valley marks a breakthrough in senior living design, as it is a senior living community located within a shopping center. This gives seniors walking access to a brand new grocery store, a pharmacy, restaurants, a variety of shops, as well as shaded grassy common areas lined with fountains and benches. Paul Griffin III, President and CEO of Griffin Living, explains, “The convenience of the shopping area for residents and their visitors is what’s drawing more people to want this option for their aging loved ones.”

The Georgian Lakeside in Roswell, Georgia, developed by Griffin Living, earned a spot on the NAHB Best of 55+ Housing Awards, earning a silver medal in design. The Georgian Lakeside, located just north of Atlanta, is a senior living community offering assisted living and memory care. Situated on a 3 acre site and consisting of 95 units of assisted living and memory care, the project is now owned by Harrison Street Real Estate Advisors and managed by Thrive Senior Living.

Cambria at Riverwalk in Riverside, California is another NAHB award winner developed by Griffin Living. A 55+ active living community, Cambria at Riverwalk is another example of Griffin Living’s excellence.

The award-winning track record of Griffin Living is a result of the family-run company’s hard work and creativity. The firm, formerly known as Griffin Fine Living, is led by president and CEO Paul Griffin III, a fifth-generation homebuilder with over 40 years of experience. Paul is an award winner himself, earning the NAHB Home Builder of the Year award in 1997 and the Habitat for Humanity Builder of the Year award in 2000. Under Paul’s leadership, Griffin looks ahead to many more award-winning projects across the country.
